Melomane1 is a New York City–based music company built for those who truly love music—Melomanes.
Founded by Didi Maellenau, Melomane1 was born in a basement on Mulberry Street in Little Italy, New York City, where culture, history, and creativity have always collided. From that underground beginning, the vision was clear: to embrace music for what it truly is and to restore the feeling that once defined it.
The name Melomane comes from the French word meaning “music lover.” It reflects the founder’s French Caribbean heritage, rooted in Haiti, and a family lineage tied to the evolution of music in both the United States and the Caribbean since the 1940s. Music at Melomane1 is not simply created—it is inherited, lived, and passed down. For generations, music has been more than sound; it has been culture, expression, and legacy shared through family.
Melomane1 is also recognized for its iconic logo: the Statue of Liberty holding a microphone—the first in music to adopt this symbol. The logo represents freedom of expression, the immigrant voice, and New York City as a global stage where sounds from everywhere find a home. It is a visual declaration that music is liberty, and liberty has a voice.
At Melomane1, we honor music at its source—from the moment the first instruments were imagined to the rhythms shaped by history, struggle, joy, and migration. We celebrate every era, from the oldies through the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, and into the future of sound.
We are a full-spectrum music label dedicated to promotion, production, writing, jingles, reality television, films, musicals, and music news. We uplift legends, champion the unheard, and create space for the next wave of voices to rise.
Our ears for music are global, naturally tuned in an almost AI-like way. From West Africa to the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and the United States, Melomane1 reflects the rhythms, cultures, and stories that shape the world.
Melomane means “music lover” in French, honoring both the language of art and the founder’s French Caribbean roots. The number One, or “1,” stands for one of a kind—a singular presence in the existence of music—committed to originality, authenticity, and leaving a legacy defined by uniqueness.
Melomane1 is more than a music label; it represents music without imitation, culture without dilution—a feeling, a home for music lovers, and a vision created to stand alone.
